Collection of Nobel Prize Female Winners in Sciences Chapter I

From the year 1901 to 2014, there are in total 17 times of Nobel Prize in Sciences have been awarded to female scientists, and Marie Curie was awarded twice separately in physics and chemistry. Thus actually 16 women accepted the honor in the last one hundred and four years.
The information of the 16 great women and the honor field are shared below.

Female Nobel Prize winners in Physics during the period of 1901-2014

Till present, two women have been awarded for Nobel Prize in Physics. And one is Marie Curie. She shared half of the prize in 1903 jointly with her husband Pierre Curie and the other half was awarded to another male scientist Antoine Henri Becquerel for the recognition of radiation and the researches on that.

The other one is Maria Goeppert Mayer. She accepted 1/4 share of the 1963 Nobel Prize in the field of nuclear physics. With another two scientists, they three have been awarded the prize for their discoveries concerning nuclear shell structure.

Female Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry during the period of 1901-2014

Including Marie Curie, there are in all 4 women were honored with Nobel Prize in this field.

Eight years later in 1911, Marie Curie again gained the Nobel Prize but in the field of chemistry for her discovery of radium and polonium along with the isolation of radium.

Irène Joliot-Curie was awarded with the prize along with husband for their discovery of new radioactive isotopes in 1935. The couple is the daughter and son-in-law of Marie Curie and Pierre Curie.

In 1964, Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Egypt born female scientist in chemistry, but accepted the prize in UK for her determination of the structure of biochemical substances by X-ray techniques.

The last woman scientist in the field in the last 104 years is Ada E. Yonath. She was awarded Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2009 jointly with other two scientists and she shared one third of the prize for “studies of the structure and function of the ribosome”.

In next chapter the rest female Nobel Prize in Sciences will be all included, then the whole collection of the subject can be complete.
