OBJECTIVE: Recently, we observed wound healing activity of 50% ethanol extract of Mallotus philippinensis Muell. Arg (MP) fruit hairs extract (MPE). In several intestinal infections, localized inflammation is of common occurrence and hence we evaluated the anti-inflammatory, analgesic and hypnotic activity of MPE in different rat experimental models.
2.Comparative analysis between [18F]fludarabine- and [18F]FDG-PET in a murine model of inflammation.

Lymphoma research has advanced thanks to introduction of [18F]fludarabine, a positron-emitting tool. This novel radiotracer has been shown to display a great specificity for lymphoid tissues. However, in benign process such as inflammation, the uptake of this tracer has not been questioned. Indeed, increased glucose metabolism in inflammatory zones is the main source of false-positives with [18F]FDG-PET Imaging. It has been purposed that cells, involved in inflammation, might be less avid of [18F]fludarabine. To induce inflammation, Swiss mice were intramuscularly inoculated with 0.1 ml of turpentine oil into the right front paw. Imaging sessions with 18F-labeled tracers named above were conducted on days 5 and 25 after inoculation. For each animal, volumes of interest (VOI), delineating the muscle of the inflamed (IP) and normal paws (NP), were defined on PET images. For characterization of inflammation, muscle samples from IP and NP were stained with haematoxylin and eosin (H&E).

Insect-microbe interaction is a key area of research in multiplayer symbiosis, yet little is known about the role of microbe-microbe interactions in insect-microbe symbioses. The red turpentine beetle (RTB) has destroyed millions of healthy pines in China and forms context-dependent relationships with associated fungi. The adult-associated fungus Leptographium procerum have played key roles in RTB colonization. However, common fungal associates (L. procerum and Ophiostoma minus) with RTB larvae compete for carbohydrates. Here, we report that dominant bacteria associated with RTB larvae buffer the competition by inhibiting the growth and D-glucose consumption of O. minus. However, they didn't inhibit the growth of L. procerum and forced this fungus to consume D-pinitol before consuming D-glucose, even though D-glucose was available and a better carbon source not only for L. procerum but also for RTB larvae and associated bacteria. This suggests the most frequently isolated bacteria associated with RTB larvae could affect fungal growth and the sequence of carbohydrate consumption.
