|Description||Theobromine, coming from the fruits of Theobroma cacao L., may reduce kidney ECM accumulation in diabetic rats. Sirt-1 activation by Theobromine have therapeutic potential for diabetic nephropathy. Theobromine at normal intake ranges contribute to the positive effects of chocolate, but at higher intakes, effects become negative. Besides, Theobromine independently increased serum HDL-cholesterol concentrations by 0.16 mmol/L. The lack of significant cocoa and interaction effects suggested that Theobromine may be the main ingredient responsible for the HDL cholesterol-raising effect.
