As shown in Fig. 1, accumulation of the positron emitter in the brain was observed 5 min after injection although the accumulation gradually decreased thereafter. Accumulation in each organ demonstrated the transient accumulation of [11C]-1 in the brain (Fig. 2) and higher levels of accumulation in the liver (Fig. 3). These observations suggested that nobiletin may confer potential beneficial effects, not only for brain function, but also for the treatment of AD because some flavonoids have been shown to prevent fibril formation.15 Recently, accumulation of 40-demethylnobiletin was detected by UV-HPLC analysis of brain tissue.5 We thereby designed the [11C]-nobiletin probe by replacing the methyl group of the 5-O-Me moiety to avoid false detection by endogenous metabolism of 1. Our findings revealed that the 1 or its metabolite was distributed in the brain.

Provinces and the first three provinces are considered genuine regional production areas in China. The developed UPLC method was successfully applied to the simultaneous determi nation of six flavonoids in Fructus aurantii samples collected from different provinces mentioned above. The results are presented in Table 4. From Table 4, it was found that the contents of naringin and neohesperidin which were the current quality control criterion of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (nar ingin, 4 mg g-1; neohesperidin, 3 mg g-1)2 were obviously higher than the other four components, while the contents of narirutin and hesperidin were relatively low, and nobiletin and tangeretin were the lowest among the components, which was consistent among the ten samples analyzed. Meanwhile, it should be noted that the contents of six components varied dramatically among different origins and some components were even not detected in a number of individual samples. The data in Table 4 show that neohesperidin and tangeretin in sample 10 (Fig. 3D) were not detected, and only naringin was detected in sample 9 (Fig. 3C), which were all from Shanxi Province

Flavonoids are a class of chemically related polyphenols that are nearly ubiquitous in nature. Flavonoids from citrus fruit are suggested to ameliorate the occurrence of coronary heart disease.19 Nobiletin (Fig. 1) is a polymethoxylated flavone isolated from peels of citrus fruits. It has been reported to possess anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and neuroprotective properties.20 Nobiletin is also known as an inhibitor of MMP-2 and MMP-9.21 In the present study, we hypothesized that nobiletin due to its MMP-2 & MMP-9 inhibitory action and antioxidant effect, may produce a cardioprotective effect against the cardiovascular dysfunction of diabetes.
