L-TBOA is a potent and competitive blocker of human excitatory amino acid transporters (EAAT1-3; IC50 values 23 µM, 3.8 µM, 7.0 µM for EAAT1, EAAT2, and EAAT3, respectively). L-TBOA is the most active isomer of DL-TBOA, and exhibits high selectivity for EAATs over ionotropic and metabotropic glutamate receptors.
