1.Depression and experience of vision loss in group of adults in rehabilitation setting: mixed-methods pilot study.
Senra H1, Vieira CR, Nicholls EG, Leal I. J Rehabil Res Dev. 2013;50(9):1301-14. doi: 10.1682/JRRD.2012.08.0138.
There is a paucity of literature regarding the relationship between the experience of vision loss and depression. Therefore, the current pilot study aimed to explore whether significant differences existed in levels of depression between adults with different vision loss experiences. A group of adults aged between 20 and 65 yr old with irreversible vision loss in a rehabilitation setting was interviewed. Semistructured interviews were conducted in order to explore patients' experience of vision loss. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) was used to assess depressive levels; 39.5% (n = 15) of patients met CES-D criteria for depression. In addition, higher levels of depression (p < 0.05) were identified in patients whose interviews revealed greater self-awareness of impairment, inadequate social support, and longer rehabilitation stay. Current findings draw attention to variables such as self-awareness of impairment and perceived social support and suggest that depression following vision loss may be related to patients' emotional experiences of impairment and adjustment processes.
2.[HPLC analysis of nonsteroidal antirheumatic agents in biological materials. III. Pyrazolidinediones].
Sochor J1, Klimes J, Sedlácek J. Ceska Slov Farm. 1998 May;47(3):128-33.
The present paper surveys published HPLC methods estimating pyrazolidinediones in biological materials and an HPLC method for estimation of kebuzone in the samples of whole blood, isolated erythrocytes and plasma. An addition of propyl gallate prevented undesired oxidation of kebuzone. For liquid-liquid extraction, kebuzone was analysed on the reverse phases Separon SGX C-18 with the mobile phase methanol--water (pH 2.7) and detected at 247 nm. The elaborated method was used in a pharmacokinetic study of kebuzone on rabbits.
3.[Nicolau syndrome after ketazon injection].
Varga L1, Asztalos L. Orv Hetil. 1990 May 27;131(21):1143-6.
Nicolau syndrome is a rare complication, which occurs after intramuscular injections of various drugs, particularly antirheumatic drugs. During one year, the authors observed this syndrome in three patients, who had received intramuscular injections of Ketazon. The aetiology of the syndrome is not yet known, but it is often caused by accidental intraarterial injections of the drug. Since there is no specific therapy for the syndrome, the authors insist on the possibility of preventing it.
