1.Effect of ibandronate on bending strength and toughness of rodent cortical bone: Possible implications for fracture prevention.
Savaridas T1, Wallace RJ2, Dawson S2, Simpson AH3. Bone Joint Res. 2015 Jun;4(6):99-104. doi: 10.1302/2046-3758.46.2000311.
OBJECTIVES: There remains conflicting evidence regarding cortical bone strength following bisphosphonate therapy. As part of a study to assess the effects of bisphosphonate treatment on the healing of rat tibial fractures, the mechanical properties and radiological density of the uninjured contralateral tibia was assessed.

3.Monthly ibandronate versus weekly risedronate treatment for low bone mineral density in stable renal transplant patients.
Sánchez-Escuredo A1, Fuster D, Rubello D, Muxí A, Ramos A, Campos F, Marzola MC, Cook GJ, Tapias A, Torregrosa JV. Nucl Med Commun. 2015 Aug;36(8):815-8. doi: 10.1097/MNM.0000000000000316.
INTRODUCTION: Bisphosphonates may aid in treating and preventing bone loss promoted by chronic immunosuppressive treatment and secondary hyperparathyroidism in renal transplant (RT) patients. However, the effectiveness of bisphosphonates is compromised by poor patient compliance. The objective of the study was to compare the effects of once monthly ibandronate with those of weekly risedronate administration on bone mineral density (BMD) and renal function in RT patients.
4.Impurity profiling of ibandronate sodium by HPLC-CAD.
Wahl O1, Holzgrabe U2. J Pharm Biomed Anal. 2015 Oct 10;114:254-64. doi: 10.1016/j.jpba.2015.06.002. Epub 2015 Jun 6.
The modern bisphosphonate drug ibandronate sodium, a challenging candidate for impurity profiling, was analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with corona charged aerosol detection (CAD). Separation was achieved on a mixed mode column combining hydrophobic C18 and strong anion exchange retention mechanisms using a mass spectrometer compatible volatile mobile phase consisting of trifluoroacetic acid and acetonitrile while gradient elution was applied. The method was validated following the ICH guideline Q2(R1) and found suitable for the assessment of ibandronate's related substances. The observed CAD-response for all identified impurities was linear (R(2)>0.995) over a small concentration range (0.05-0.25) and a quantification limit of at least 0.03% was found. Four batches of two different manufacturers were tested by means of the method. None of the batches contained a single impurity above 0.05%. The major impurities of all batches were the synthesis by-products N-desmethyl- and N-despentyl ibandronate as well as N,N-dimethyl pamidronate.
