Sodium ferulate is the main constituent of Chinese angelica and szechwan lovage rhizome. Because of its multiple functions in antiplatelet aggregation, anti-inflammation, and antioxidation, SF has been wildly applied in clinical use such as for angiocardiopathy and carcinomas. In addition, SF has a negative effect on cholesterol synthesis,which probably leads to the reduction of geranylgeranyl-pyrophosphate (GGPP), a key material in activating the RhoA/Rho-kinase signaling pathway.
2. The Effects of the Combination of Sodium Ferulate and Oxymatrine on Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Lung Injury in Mice

Sodium ferulate (SF), a compound extracted from Radix Angelicae sinensis, had been used to treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases because of its effects on anti-oxidation and anti-inflammation. Oxymatrine (OMT), the chief active component of Chinese herb Radix Sophora flavescens Ait, had been reported with the following pharmacological effects, anti-inflammation, inhibiting immune reaction, protecting hepatocytes, and anti-apoptotic. However, the single drug treatment had a weak anti-inflammatory and analgesic potency. For example, the effective dose of OMT on anti-inflammatory effect was about 100 mg/kg in the animal models. According to prescription of traditional Chinese medicine, we found that the combination of SF and OMT had obvious anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. The main anti-inflammatory effect was on the acute phase of inflammatory infiltrates. Therefore, we speculated that the combination should be a potential effective drug to treat ALI.
