The MEEKC separation and on-line preconcentration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were investigated. In this work, two microemulsion (ME) systems were employed. Complete separation could be achieved at a pH of 5.5 with octane as the oil phase (ME I). The LODs for the determination of flurbiprofen, fenoprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, suprofen, and indoprofen were 0.45, 0.32, 0.10, 0.48, 0.77, and 0.29 mg/L, respectively. To enhance the sensitivity, anion selective exhaustive injection-sweeping (ASEI-sweeping) and stacking with reverse migrating pseudostationary phase (SRMP) were compared. For having a simple process without polarity switching and shorter analysis time, a suppressed EOF and di-n-butyl-L-tartrate as the oil phase (ME II) were used for the simultaneous determination of NSAIDs. The sensitivity for ASEI-sweeping was enhanced approximately 280-fold. However, there was much background noise, and some of the analytes were co-eluted.

Estimating the influence of interfering compounds present in the biological matrix on the determination of an analyte is one of the most important tasks during bioanalytical method development and validation. Interferences from endogenous components and, if necessary, from major metabolites as well as possible co-administered medications should be evaluated during a selectivity test. This paper describes a simple, rapid and cost-effective HPLC-UV method for the determination of naproxen in human plasma in the presence of two other analgesics, ibuprofen and paracetamol. Sample preparation is based on a simple liquid-liquid extraction procedure with a short, 5 s mixing time. Fenoprofen, which is characterized by a similar structure and properties to naproxen, was first used as the internal standard. The calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 0.5-80.0 µg/mL which is suitable for the pharmacokinetic studies following a single 220 mg oral dose of naproxen sodium.

OBJECTIVE: To perform a systematic review evaluating the association between sensorineural hearing loss and (1) nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as a class, (2) NSAIDs available over the counter, (3) NSAIDs in short intravenous courses, (4) prescription NSAIDs utilized by patients without systemic inflammatory conditions, (5) prescription NSAIDs in patients with arthritides, and (6) acetaminophen with and without concomitant narcotic usage.

The new sample preparation concept "Parallel artificial liquid membrane extraction (PALME)" was evaluated for extraction of the acidic drugs ketoprofen, fenoprofen, diclofenac, flurbiprofen, ibuprofen, and gemfibrozil from human plasma samples. Plasma samples (250 μL) were loaded into individual wells in a 96-well donor plate and diluted with HCl to protonate the acidic drugs. The acidic drugs were extracted as protonated species from the individual plasma samples, through corresponding artificial liquid membranes each comprising 2 μL of dihexyl ether, and into corresponding acceptor solutions each comprising 50 μL of 25 mM ammonia solution (pH 10). The liquid membranes and the acceptor solutions were located in a 96-well filter plate, which was sandwiched with the 96-well donor plate during extraction. Parallel extraction of several samples was performed for 15 to 60 min, followed by high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection of the individual acceptor solutions.
