Balsalazide disodium dihydrate is the disodium salt form of balsalazide which is a sulfasalazine analogue and can be synthesized from 4-aminobenzoyl-β-alanine (ABA). Balsalazide was approved for the treatment of mild-to-moderate active UC and as an anti-inflammatory drug.
