1.A rapid and most sensitive liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry method for simultaneous determination of alverine and its major metabolite, para hydroxy alverine, in human plasma: application to a pharmacokinetic and bioequivalence study.
Ghosh C1, Jha V, Ahir R, Shah S, Shinde CP, Chakraborty BS. Drug Test Anal. 2010 Jun;2(6):284-91. doi: 10.1002/dta.130.
A rapid and highly sensitive method for the determination of alverine (ALV) and its metabolite, para hydroxy alverine (PHA), in human plasma using LC-MS/MS in positive ion electrospray ionization (ESI) in multiple reactions monitoring (MRM) mode was developed and validated. The procedure involves a simple solid phase extraction (SPE). Chromatographic separation was carried out on a Hypersil GOLD C(18) column (50 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 microm) with an isocratic mobile phase and a total run time of 1.5 min. The standard calibration curves showed excellent linearity within the range of 0.060-10.051 ng/mL for ALV and 0.059-10.017 ng/mL for PHA (r > or = 0.990). This method was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study after oral administration of alverine citrate 120 mg capsule in Indian healthy male volunteers.
2.Effect of antispasmodic agents, alone or in combination, in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome: systematic review and meta-analysis.
Martínez-Vázquez MA1, Vázquez-Elizondo G, González-González JA, Gutiérrez-Udave R, Maldonado-Garza HJ, Bosques-Padilla FJ. Rev Gastroenterol Mex. 2012 Apr-Jun;77(2):82-90. doi: 10.1016/j.rgmx.2012.04.002. Epub 2012 Jun 5.
INTRODUCTION: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is characterized by recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habit.
3.Influence of simethicone and alverine on stress-induced alterations of colonic permeability and sensitivity in rats: beneficial effect of their association.
Bueno L1, Beaufrand C, Theodorou V, Andro-Delestrain MC. J Pharm Pharmacol. 2013 Apr;65(4):567-73. doi: 10.1111/jphp.12021. Epub 2013 Jan 17.
OBJECTIVES: Alverine, an antispasmodic agent for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), may be combined with simethicone, a protective agent of the mucosa. Stress is a major factor triggering abdominal pain in IBS and causing hypersensitivity to colonic distension in animals through an increased colonic permeability. The antinociceptive effects of alverine and simethicone, separately or in association, were evaluated on stress-induced colonic hypersensitivity to distension in rats. The influence of simethicone on altered permeability was also tested.
4.On-demand treatment with alverine citrate/simeticone compared with standard treatments for irritable bowel syndrome: results of a randomised pragmatic study.
Ducrotte P1, Grimaud JC, Dapoigny M, Personnic S, O'Mahony V, Andro-Delestrain MC. Int J Clin Pract. 2014 Feb;68(2):245-54. doi: 10.1111/ijcp.12333. Epub 2013 Oct 21.
BACKGROUND: In routine practice, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms are often difficult to be relieved and impair significantly patients' quality of life (QoL). A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study has shown the efficacy of alverine citrate/simeticone (ACS) combination for IBS symptom relief.
