1.Characterization of flavonoid glycosides from rapeseed bee pollen using a combination of chromatography, spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance with a step-wise separation strategy.
Li Y1,2,3, Qi Y4, Ritho J5, Zhang Y6, Zheng X7, Zhou J1,2,3, Sun L1,8. Nat Prod Res. 2016;30(2):228-31. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2015.1041942. Epub 2015 May 18.
To identify the structures of flavonoid glycosides in bee pollen collected from rapeseed plants (Brassica napus L.), we utilised an approach that combined liquid chromatography-diode array detector-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (LC-DAD-ESI-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology with a step-wise separation strategy. We identified four constituents of high purity in rape bee pollen samples: (1) quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucosyl-(2→l)-β-glucoside, (2) kaempferol-3, 4'-di-O-β-D-glucoside, (3) 5, 7, 4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxyflavone-3-O-β-D-sophoroside and (4) kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucosyl-(2→l)-β-D-glucoside. This study will also provide useful reference standards for qualification and quantification of four flavonoid glycosides in natural products.
2.[Lignans from Machilus robusta].
Bu PB1, Li YR, Jiang M, Wang XL, Wang F, Lin S, Zhu CG, Shi JG. Zhongguo Zhong Yao Za Zhi. 2013 Jun;38(11):1740-6.
Eighteen lignans were isolated from an ethanol extract of Machilus robusta by a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and reversed-phase HPLC. Their structures were identified by spectroscopic data analysis as isolariciresinol-9'-O-beta-D-xylopyranoside (1), (+)-5'-methoxy-isolariciresinol-9'-O-beta-D-xylopyranoside(2), lyoniresinol-9'-O-beta-D-xylopyranoside(3), (+)-(8S, 8'S) -4, 4'-dihydroxy-3, 3', 5, 5'-tetramethoxylignan-9, 9'-diol 9-O-beta-D-xylopyranoside (ssioriside, 4), lyoniresinol (5), meso-dihydroguaiaretic acid (6), (+)-(8S, 8'R)-3', 4, 4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxylignan (7), (8S, 8'R)-4'-hydroxy-3, 3', 4-trimethoxylignan (meso-monomethyl dihydroguaiaretic acid, 8), (+)-guaiacin (9), isoguaiacin (10), (-)-(7'R, 8R, 8'R)-4, 4'-dihydroxy-3, 3', 5-trimethoxy-2, 7'-cyclolignan (11), henricine B (12), (-)-(7S, 7'S, 8R, 8'R)-4, 4'-dihydroxy-3, 3', 5, 5'-tetramethoxy-7, 7'-epoxylignan-9, 9'-dio] (7S, 7'S, 8R, 8'R-icariol A2, 13), (+)-(7R, 8R, 7'E)-4-hydroxy-3, 5'-dimethoxy-7, 4'-epoxy-8, 3'-neolignan-7'-ene (licarin A, 14), nectandrin B (15), machilin-I (16), (-)-pinoresinol (17), and (-)-syringaresinol (18).

4.Two New Flavonoids and Biological Activity of Astragalus abyssinicus (Hochst.) Steud. ex A. Rich. Aerial Parts.
El Dib RA1, Soliman HS2, Hussein MH3, Attia HG4. Drug Res (Stuttg). 2015 May;65(5):259-65. doi: 10.1055/s-0034-1377003. Epub 2014 Jun 18.
2 new flavonoid glycosides, kaempferol 3-O-(4",6"-di-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside (1) and quercetin 3-O-(4",6"-di-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), were isolated from the n-butanol soluble fraction of the methanol extract (BF) of Astragalus abyssinicus aerial parts, together with 3 known compounds, rutin (3), kaempferol 3-O-β-D-rutinoside (4) and 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxyisoflavone (5). The structures of the isolated compounds were characterized on the basis of UV, NMR and negative ESI-MS analyses. The BF fraction showed in vitro weak antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, while 2 and 3 exhibited in vitro antioxidant activity higher than ascorbic acid using DPPH free radical scavenging activity method.
