1.Polaromonas eurypsychrophila sp. nov., isolated from an ice core in Muztagh Glacier, Tibet, China.

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, beige bacterium, B717-2T was isolated from an ice core drilled from Muztagh Glacier on the Tibetan Plateau, China. According to phylogenetic analyses with ribosomal sequences, the novel strain was most closely related to Polaromonas vacuolata and shared with type strain of this species a 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 97.7%. It grew optimally at pH 7 and 15 °C with 2% NaCl (m/v). Major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol. The major fatty acids were summed feature 3 (C16:1 ω7c and/or iso-C15:0 2-OH) (52.7%), summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c, C18:1ω6c) (23.1%) and C16:0 (21.9%). The sole respiratory quinone was Q-8. The DNA G+C content was 63.4 mol%. In DNA-DNA hybridization tests, strain B717-2T shared 37.0±1.9%, 30.0±1.7%, 26.0±0.9%, 23.4±0.5% and 18.4±1.9% DNA-DNA relatedness with P. jejuensis JS12-13T, P. vacuolata 34-PT, P. aquatica CCUG 39402T, P.
2.Necrosis-inducing peptide has the beneficial effect on killing tumor cells through neuropilin (NRP-1) targeting.

The therapeutic efficacy of most anti-cancer drugs depends on their apoptosis-inducing abilities. Previously, we showed that a peptide containing the mitochondrial targeting domain (MTD) found in Noxa, a BH-3 only protein of Bcl-2 family, induces necrosis. Here, a fusion peptide of neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) targeting peptide and MTD peptide, designated tumor homing motif 17:MTD (TU17:MTD), was found to induce necrosis in cancer cells in vitro and to cause the regression of tumors when intravenously injected into mice bearing subcutaneous CT26 colorectal carcinoma tumors. The necrosis within tumor tissues was evident upon administering TU17:MTD. TU17:MTD penetrated into tumor cells by targeting to Neuropilin-1, which could be blocked by anti-NRP-1 antibody. The efficacy of TU17:MTD on tumor regression was higher than that of TU17:D(KLAKLAK)2, a fusion peptide of NRP-1 targeting peptide and a pro-apoptotic peptide. The necrotic cell death within tumor tissues was evident at day 1 after administering TU17:MTD systemically.

4.The Blood Supply to the Canine Middle Ear.

Current descriptions of the anatomy of the blood supply to the canine middle ear are either incomplete or inconsistent, particularly in regards to the vascular branches in close proximity to the temporomandibular articulation (TMJ). In order to further investigate this blood supply, dissections (n = 9), corrosion casts (n = 4), and computed tomography (n = 8) of canine temporal regions/ears were performed. The goal of this study was to identify and describe branches of the external carotid and maxillary arteries in close proximity to the TMJ that supply the middle ear of the dog. Specific focus was placed on the constancy and origin of the canine rostral tympanic artery since this artery was anticipated to arise from the maxillary artery and enter a foramen at the medial aspect of the mandibular fossa adjacent to the TMJ. New anatomical variations of three canine arteries are described in this study. (1) The rostral tympanic artery is a branch of the temporomandibular ramus and is accommodated by a small foramen located within a depression medial to the temporomandibular joint.
